The Push Continues

30th March 2021 – After yesterday’s awful conditions l today is like a summers day, the sun is out the wind is none existent, the conditions are absolutely perfect for and early game of golf! This time we have a 4 ball, we are all around the same handicaps so it should make for an interesting game, I’m feeling slightly sore after yesterday’s game but no pain no gain! This time my first tee shot ended up right where I wanted it, leaving me with a little bump and run onto the green which I executed perfectly, unfortunately my putting was not up to standard again and cost me my par, this was the same story for most of the holes today. I also lost a sleeve of balls over the same wall from the exact same shot! Not happy about that either but pushing on I started to relax more and get into it on the back 9, avoiding the mistakes that I had made previously, this is always easier said than done especially when it comes to my golf swing! But having said that I managed to finish the round with 112 strokes and 26 Stableford points, so a major improvement from yesterday’s round. I am over the moon at this improvement as it just goes to show how out of practice that I was. I am slowly getting down to that 100 mark!

First game after lockdown.

March 29th 2021 08:50am Tee off time – Getting out of bed this morning was the easiest thing I have ever had to do, the night before felt like Christmas eve! Clothes all laid out ready for the day, trolley battery charged, clubs gleaming ready to be punished. The excitement is beaming from my face while I am preparing myself for the morning ahead of me then one look outside and the gale force winds really put a downer on the whole buzz of the day. I was not missing this day due to some wind! The golf club is only a short drive away from home, I have been a member at South Shields Golf Club for just shy of one year now and the course has been fantastic every single time I have played there, rain, snow, any weather and the course holds up extremely well! So as I get myself ready and meet up with the rest of the group the wind is howling and making walking seem like a task. The first hole is a nice par 3 to set the game up, however when you have 30mph winds blowing all over the place this is either make or break and with it being the first day back on the course it well and truly broke me! First shot slice to the right leaving me with a pitching wedge to try and find the green! Managed to find the green and then horror as the putting that I had not been practicing started to show! Finishing on a lovely 7 on what is usually a nice and easy par 3. This wasn’t the only hole that ended up like that, the other 17 holes after that were a giant struggle playing into the wind, distance slashing gales turned this game into a real test especially with it being the first game back also. However it was still an amazing feeling being back out there in the fresh air with the lads having a good laugh and playing some golf. Finishing off the game I came out with a mere 119 strokes and a poor 18 Stableford points. Considering the poor conditions and not swinging a club in nearly 3 months I was pleased with that and was looking forward to getting back out there the next day to try and knock some strokes off closer towards 100!
