March 29th 2021 08:50am Tee off time – Getting out of bed this morning was the easiest thing I have ever had to do, the night before felt like Christmas eve! Clothes all laid out ready for the day, trolley battery charged, clubs gleaming ready to be punished. The excitement is beaming from my face while I am preparing myself for the morning ahead of me then one look outside and the gale force winds really put a downer on the whole buzz of the day. I was not missing this day due to some wind! The golf club is only a short drive away from home, I have been a member at South Shields Golf Club for just shy of one year now and the course has been fantastic every single time I have played there, rain, snow, any weather and the course holds up extremely well! So as I get myself ready and meet up with the rest of the group the wind is howling and making walking seem like a task. The first hole is a nice par 3 to set the game up, however when you have 30mph winds blowing all over the place this is either make or break and with it being the first day back on the course it well and truly broke me! First shot slice to the right leaving me with a pitching wedge to try and find the green! Managed to find the green and then horror as the putting that I had not been practicing started to show! Finishing on a lovely 7 on what is usually a nice and easy par 3. This wasn’t the only hole that ended up like that, the other 17 holes after that were a giant struggle playing into the wind, distance slashing gales turned this game into a real test especially with it being the first game back also. However it was still an amazing feeling being back out there in the fresh air with the lads having a good laugh and playing some golf. Finishing off the game I came out with a mere 119 strokes and a poor 18 Stableford points. Considering the poor conditions and not swinging a club in nearly 3 months I was pleased with that and was looking forward to getting back out there the next day to try and knock some strokes off closer towards 100!
